Jacob Toews

Jacob Toews was born to Henry and Katherine (Thiessen) Toews in Lichtenau,, Russia. The family emigrated to Canada in 1924 and began farming in Arnaud, Manitoba. He was baptized into the Mennonite Brethren Church in 1928. Jacob graduated from MCI in Gretna in 1932, after which he took teacher training in Winnipeg and began teaching in 1935. He married Anna Neufeld in 1942.
Jacob served as a missionary teacher during World War II, and continued to teach until his retirement in 1979, after which he taught ESL to new Canadians, joined the Golden Strings, and was a member of the Fraser Valley Symphony for 16 years. He was also active as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent.
