Wilse is a Dano-Norwegian surname. It originated with Jacob Mathisen Wilse, born ca. 1680, who resided in Vils, a small settlement on Mors Is. in Limfjord, on the west coast of Denmark merchant, outfitted expensive expedition to Greenland, but ship sank with cargo and all aboard, including one of his three sons, off the Norwegian coast.
