Jacob Daniel Zimmerly

STERLING — Jacob D. “Jake” Zimmerly, 81, of Sterling, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 1, 2018, following a fall at his residence.

He was born in Sterling on Oct. 12, 1936, the son of Dennis and Edna (Blough) Zimmerly. He was united in marriage to Ila Long on Aug. 27, 1960, in International Falls, Minnesota. She survives.

Jake was a 1954 graduate of Norwayne High School. He was a dairy farmer his entire life, and he and his brother, Dennis, owned and operated the Zimmerly Brothers Dairy Farm.

He was a member of Crown Hill Mennonite Church, where he had been a Sunday school teacher and held a variety of leadership positions in the church. Jake also has been active in the Farm Bureau.

In addition to his wife, Ila, he is survived by sons, Terrence (Karen) Zimmerly of Iowa City, Iowa, Randall (Cynthia) Zimmerly of Shipshewana, Indiana and Michael (Diane) Zimmerly of Kent; daughter, Joy (Brian) Ziegler of Sterling; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Lois) Zimmerly of Sterling; and sisters, Velma (Arthur) Shoup of Rittman and Anna Detweiler and Twila Zimmerly, both of Sterling.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Evelyn Zimmerly.

Services will be held at Crown Hill Mennonite Church Saturday, Jan. 6, at 11 a.m., with pastor Thomas Dunn officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery,

Friends may call at Crown Hill Mennonite Church Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, from 5-7 p.m. or Saturday from 10-10:45 a.m.
