About Jacob Jacobse van der Groef

Jacob Jacobse , j.m. (van de Groùvv) and Lena Leendertse Soldaat, who had given each other in the year 1696 in Dirksland that for them and also for us so important yes

One of my far distant ancestors , born in or around the year 1676 , who had moved to the small place of Dirksland on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee in the country of the Netherlands by the end of the 17th century . Jacob most definitely wasn't the only one who had 'emigrated' to the village of Dirksland in those days : so did his brother ZACHARIAS JACOBSE and so did JOHANNIS JACOBSE , PIETER JANSE , an other man named JACOB JACOBSE as well , ARY TEEUWISSE and many other men , all with just one purpose : work , bétter work and a better prospect in all of their , as can be assumed without all too many doubts , very poor and possibly even miserable lives ..... But where then did they all so suddenly come from ?? All these people must have come from the very same Dutch village in the south of the province of Zeeland , named Groede = De Groùvv = De Groef - and since they all came from that same place , they were all , from the moment they 'went ashore' in Dirksland , named after this village and thuswise since then known as 'Van Der Groef', simply meaning : '(coming) From De Groef'.
