About Jacobus Marais
Jacobus "Kobus" Marais (1949 - 2008)
Brief overview:
Kobus (59), was murdered at 23h15 on 20th March 2008, when four armed attackers broke through a window of the front door, robbing the Marais family - six men and three women - and forced them to the ground. One of the visitors Louis Lewies was assaulted and shot in the leg. The perpetrators tried to separate the men and the women, Kobus stood up and tried to stop them and he was shot in the head with a 9mm handgun. Within four minutes the attackers stole cell phones, a spotlight, keys and a ring. Kobus's son, Jaco Marais (28), took his father in his vehicle to Arwyp Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Jaco Marais said the police were not helpful. "The police at the Crystal Park police station have so far not been able to give us a case number, they were still handling the case as an 'ordinary housebreak' yesterday. No attempt has been made yet to locate this cellphone and arrest the attackers," he said. Const. Police spokeswoman Godin Nyathi said he did not know who had the dossier and would only be able to find out tomorrow. "The computer at the police station says it was just a housebreak and says nothing about a murder or cellphone."
