About James Floyd Aldridge

James Floyd Aldridge enlisted in the U.S. Army May 31, 1939 and served in the Field Artillery. He was captured by the Germans on February 14, 1943 in North Africa and was a Prisoner Of War for 26 months in Stalag, Germany. He was liberated August 20, 1945.

Aldridge was sent to Ft. Bragg where he was discharged later that year.

While a prisoner, he wrote the following letter to his mother:

"Dear Mother:

I hope you have heard from me before now. If not, don't worry about me. I am feeling fine and getting along as fine as I could expect as a prisoner. Mother, there are a few things I would like to have and sure would like for you to send them to me. I want a shaving outfit and a tooth brush and paste and some socks and underwear. And send me some kind of candy and cigarettes and some other things to eat. See the Red Cross and they will know more what to send and be sure and send it through the Red Cross.

I will write as often as I can. Tell all of them 'Hello' and the best of luck to you all. Write me when you feel like it and tell all the rest to write. So goodby and don't worry.

My Love, James"
