MEMORIAL PHOTOS 3 FLOWERS 14 There is a discrepancy in the date of James’ birth. His grave marker states that he was born in 1759. However, in the book “Let the Drums Roll”, Veterans and Patriots of the Revolutionary War who settled in Maury County, Tennessee by Marise Parrish Lightfoot disputes the 1759 date. This book states that he died at the age of 72 in November of 1829, which would indicate he was born in 1757.

James has been accepted as a “Proven Patriot” in the Sons’ of the American Revolution. His Patriot number is 195803. He was accepted for his service in Virginia’s 10th & 6th Regiments.

James moved to the Fayette County, Virginia/Kentucky area sometime after 1780. There he married Mary Tomlinson before 1781. In August of 1782, James, his close friend Aaron Reynolds, and his brother-in-law Richard Tomlinson fought in the battle of Blue Licks. Richard was killed in the battle. James and Aaron Reynolds are buried next to each other in Maury County, TN. James and Mary had six children. They are:

Catherine Allen, 1781 - 1851 Nancy Allen, 1783 - 1858 Charles Allen, 1784-? William Allen, 1788 -? James Allen Jr., 1791 - 1859 Zachariah Young Allen, 1795 - 1844
