By 1876 James Stuart Allison had become an interpreter and Clerk with the Upper Tugela Magistracy. It's interesting to note that Albert Senior (his father) was in his post of Administrator for Native Law during the Zulu War in 1879. Certainly James was involved in that war as a Levy Leader. He is also reported to have retrieved the Prince Imperial's Sword when the latter was killed on the 1 st June 1879.
