About James Jefferson Andrews

According to Lynn, he moved from Jefferson County to Madison County, Florida sometime between 1888 and his death in 1908. James Jefferson's farm was off ov Seven Bridges Road and backed up to the Bishop Cemetery. His wife's mother, Rebecca Kinsey Grubbs is buried in that cemetery. The second county courthouse in Perry, Florida, was built around 1891. He had the contract to build it. This courthouse is still standing but was moved to make room for the current one. Julius T. Williams found a record of James Jefferson Andrews being kicked out of the service for being underaged. He later reenlisted and was present at Appomattox Court House when Lee surrendered. Also present at the surrender was Valentine Andrews, his brother and David McLeod, who was the father of James Arch Andrews' first wife, Margaret Diliah McLeod. He was also father of Martha Della McLeod, the wife of Joseph Franklin Andrews and T. P. McLeod who married Laura Andrews. James Arch Andrews was Julius' grandfather and Joe and Laura were some of his brothers and sisters. All were children of James Jefferson Andrews. He is buried in the Andrews Cemetery in Madison County,Florida. It is south of town 4.5 miles past I-10. Turn west on a dirt road. Go 7 miles. there is a house on the right, east side of the road. Road turns here northerly. Go .8 miles north of this house and east of road. This is the lineage of Lynn McMahon Davis who is also working on the geneaalogy of this line.
