About James Greenough Anthony
Died of typhoid fever.
The handwritten copy of his will lists the will date as 12 Dec 1860. I believe this recopied date to be in error rather than the headstone, for several reasons:
1) the carved date on his headstone is 6 Dec 1860, and appears to have been the original headstone due to style and age.
2) He died relatively young and unexpectedly from typhoid fever, and the will seems somewhat hastily drafted, given the size of the estate, so I am inclined to believe that he did, indeed, write the will during his final illness, when it became clear he was not recovering.
3) Additionally, I believe it is easier to have mistaken "2" for "12" when recopying a document, than to have mistaken December for another month.
4) Given the above, I believe that the most likely date for his will is 2 Dec 1860, 4 days prior to death. - [Private User]
