Yesterday evening at 4 o'clock Mr. Jas. Bailey, one of the oldest residents of Houston departed this life at the advanced age of seventy-eight years, his seventy-ninth birthday falling on the 13th of the present month. .
Mr. Bailey was a very promment (sic) man in Houston in his prime of life, and in the city's early days, and held many positions of trust in the infantine administration of her government. As early as 1846 he was mayor of Houston, and subsequently has worthily filled other public positions to which the confidence of the people exalted him in bringing Houston out of a wilderness. .
He died of old age and general debility. .
