Franklin Democrat, Friday, 19 May 1905, pg 4 PISGAH – James H. Balser died Wednesday morning from a stroke of paralysis which came upon him about 7:30 as he was on his way to his shoe shop. Besides his wife he leaves two sons, Andrew and Jefferson, and two daughters.

Death of James Bolser
James Bolser, plasterer and shoemaker dropped dead about two blocks from his home Wednesday morning while going to his shop to work, about 6:00. He left his home feeling in good spirits although he had not been well for some weeks. When going through an alley on his road to his shop he suddenly fell and was dead before help reached him.
Mr. Bolser was sixty-four years of age. He was formerly a plasterer and concrete contractor but for the past fifteen years has followed the trade of shoe-making. His shop was in the Blizzard block.
He is survived by the widow and four children. The children are Mrs. John Roberts, Mrs. George Kinney, Jefferson Bolser of this city and Andrew Bolser of Loogootee, Ind. Three sisters and three brothers also survive.
Mr. Bolser was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He was an old soldier and served in the civil war in Co. G. 128 Ind. Vol. He was also a member of the Red Men Lodge. The funeral will be held this morning at 10:00 at the M.E. church, Rev. Samuel Ried having the services in charge.

James Henry Balser was married three times.
1. His first wife was Charity Ann Clark. James and Charity were married on March 17, 1864 in Indiana. They had at least one child together, Hattie (Balser) Roberts (1865-1921).
2. James married his second wife, Ursula Smith, about 1868 and they had at least three children together including: Sarah Elizabeth "Libbie" (Balser) Kinney, William Jefferson Balser and Andrew Elwood Balser.
3. James was married a third time to Eliza A. Vert (1844-1908) about 1888.
