About James Biggs

James Biggs landed at Algoa Bay. He travelled to Grahamstown by ox wagon and apprenticed to a wagon builder, John Wheeldon and married his employeers daughter Elizabeth. She was the granddaughter of Edward and Jane Ford.

James was a wagon maker. He emigrated to South Africa in 1840 and married Elizabeth Wheeldon in 1852. He was married in the Baptist Chapel, Grahams Town in the District of Albany in the Colony of the Cape of Good Hope.

This was taken from the Original Register. Married in the Baptist Chapel at Grahams Town aforesaid, after Banns, by me, Alexander.

This Marriage was solemnised between us James Biggs Elizabeth Wheeldon in the presence of us Baptist Minister , James Wheeldon, Joseph Dicks.

James was then 26 years of age and Elizabeth was 18 years. Thereafter they lived at De Rusrt Jansenville district.
