Letter written by Rev James Floyd Fletcher "Caty Blevins father was Capt James Blevins whose wife was a Stilt (Irish) James Blevins father was Wills (Wells) Blevins whose wife was a Strunk (Dutch). His father was James Blevins who came from England prior to the revolution and married a Ward on Bridle Creek in Grayson Co Va.""

Les Blecins says "Katy Blevins' father was Capt James Blevins (b. ca. 1795) whose sife (wife) was a Stilt (Styatt) James Blevins father was Wills (Wells) Blevins b. ca. 1757 whose wife was a Strunk (it was Sarah "Betsy" Strunk). His father was James Blevins Jr. who married a Ward on Bridle Creek and whose father James (b. ca. 1708) came from England prior to the revolution."

NOTES GRANDFATHER William Blevins Sr. (aka #2 and Grt Grdpa) (son of William#1) b. ca. 1691 in Lancashire England. William and his family arrived in central Virginia by about 1734.

They were in southern Va in Henry County, Va. when it was formed from Pittsylvania Co., in 1776.

William #2 and his sons were Long Hunters and wide ranging explorers in Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky.

William #2 was known as "Old Bill" in his later years.

In the Moravian Records - it was reported in 1751 that William Blevins and his sons "would bring in to the local trading post more pelts than there was cash to pay for, but that they would gladly accept goods in lieu of cash."

William's eldest sons James and John were mentioned in several land transactions in Goochland Co., Va in the 1730's and 1740's.

1737 Goochland County, VA - James Blevin 400 acres and 295 acres on Little Muddy Creek.

1739 Goochland County, VA - John Blevin 300 acres on Turkey Creek run of Willis River.

1743 Goochland County, VA - James Blevin of Goochland sells to Robert Douglas 295 acres on Little Muddy Creek, south side of James River

James Blevins #1 (3rd gen.) (William#2-2, William#1-1) b. abt. 1708 "James Blevins and family appeared in southern Virginia about 1734. Clement's History of Pittsylvania County Virginia, pages 41-45 reports that "By 1748 there were a number of settlements on Smith River in Western Lunenburg Co., Va. James and Daniel Blevins, well known hunters, had homes on the river."

James #1 was listed on the Halifax Co., Va. militia list in 1758. This cluster was in Henry Co., Va in 1777, Montgomery Co., Va from 1787 to 1789, and Lincoln Co., Ky from 1794 to 1809. James #1 married Sarah Belcher abt. 1735

John Blevins #1 (3rd. gen.) (William#2-2, William #1-1) b. abt 1716. John was listed as a Colonial Soldier in Va. in 1758. He was also a Longhunter of the Walden-Blevins hunting expeditions. John (Jack) and his father are referred to by Col. John Sevier in his Journal of Nov. 20, 1798 as having hunted a tributary of the Wolf River in what is now Fentress Co. Tn. In August of 1767 it was ordered that - James Talbott be the surveyor of a new road from John Blevins's place on the Smith River to Hickey's Old Road below Leatherwood Chapel. John Blevins bought cattle from Thomas Wynne in Pittsylvania Co., Va. - which transaction was entered into Deed Book #1 on page 267, July 28, 1752. John Blevins #1 married Katherine Cox a daughter of John Cox.
