DNA RESULTS OF A MALE DESCENDANT OF JOSEPH BROOKS

Derived variant in the Y chromosome tree: R-M405

Paternal Haplogroup: R1b1a2a1a1

Geographical Region: Eurasia

Distribution:-

East Europe = 33%

North Europe = 35%

Arabian Peninsula = 10%

North Africa = 3%

West Africa = 8%

East Africa = 3%

South Asia = 3%

East Asia 2%

Native American = 2%

Neanderthal = 0.82%

"Genetic GPS" = North East Italy

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE HAPLOGROUP

The ancestral haplogroup R1b is by far the most frequent haplogroup in

Eurasia, reaching frequencies close to 100%. For some time, it was under

discussion whether its origin was Palaeolithic or Neolithic, and it is now

accepted that it was originated in the Near East about 25,000 years ago,

and then migrated to the steppes. From the steppes, R1b was taken in

the migration of the Indo-European horse tamers (Yamna culture) in the

Bronze Age to the rest of the European continent, having replaced the

local indigenous male lineages, even in Iberia. This total replacement

was observed in the ancient DNA, which indicates that all other current

paternal lineages not of this haplogroup were probably introduced in

more recent migrations. There are several sub-lines of R1b according to

geography and yours is more frequent in Central Europe.

Maternal Lineage:-

Maternal Haplogroup: L0d2a1

Geographical Region: Sub-Saharan Africa

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE HAPLOGROUP

L0 haplogroup is the oldest one in the mtDNA modern human tree, dating

around 149,700 years old. Its sub-lineage L0d was the first to emerge in its

diversification, at around 87,000 years ago and is currently more frequent in the

Khoe-San groups of Southern Africa, as well as being very common in the

Coloured population of South Africa (60-71%) and in other southern African

countries (as Angola, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique).
