About James Jarrel Burrow

Obituary: "At Rest," such was the inscription on the lid of the lovely casket, in which the body of Jarrel Burrow was borne to the Majorville cemetery last Wednesday afternoon and laid away to mingle with its kindred dust. Jarrel Burrow was born in Bedford county, Tennessee, August twentieth, 1819, and died September 17, 1906. At the age of four years he moved with his parents to Macon county, Tennessee, where he resided until 1849, when he came to Hancock county, Illinois, his present home. He was united in marriage to Emeline Wright in 1843. To this union were born four children, William Burrow, Mrs. William Lovely of Hancock county, Mrs. Martin Burrow of Peoria, and Mrs. Taylor Burrow of Hillsdale, Tennessee (deceased). Besides the aged widow he leaves two daughters, one son, a number of grandchildren and great grand children and a host of friends to mourn his loss. Mr. Burrow was an enterprising citizen and a successful farmer, and in the end had accumulated quite a nice comfortable home. He was the soul of hsopitality and his home and board were always open to his friends. As a husband, father and grand father he was a model, and his attachment to his wife and children was only equalled by their great love for him, especially the love and care he has had during the past four years of his affliction, from his son, William, who was ever ready to leave his own home and family, and deprived himself and family of attending many gatherings of pleasure to take care of his father. Mr. Burrow united with the Baptist church while yet in the state of Tennessee, and remained firm in that faith, yet he was always a liberal giver to all churches and contributed to the building of both the old and the new Majorville churches. Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 19th at Majorville conducted by Rev. L. P. Bear, M. E. pastor, of Elvaston, and was largely attended, after which the remains were laid to rest to await the resurrection morn.

Son of James Burrow and Rachel Johnson.

The year of birth on his tombstone is 1820. His obituary reported he was born in 1819, as did the 1900 Federal Census.

His parents reportedly moved to Macon County, Tennessee, when Jarrel was 4 years old.
He lived there until 1849 at which time he moved to Hancock County, Illinois.
