Notes for James C. Carpenter:
James came to Kentucky at an early age with his family. He was drafted at Cumberland County, Kentucky, about April 1, 1814, into an infantry company commanded by Edward Willburn in the 14th Reg Kentucky June 12, 1815, having taken part in the battle of New Orleans. He married Rebecca Riddle in Cumberland County, Kentucky on 17 Feb 1818 and sometime before 1830 they moved to Indiana. They were in Floyd County in 1830, Harrison County in 1840, and in Crawford County in 1850. James died October 1854 in Monroe County, Indiana, while the family was on the way to Illinois. Rebecca and the 4 younger sons came to Illinois and settled in Champaign County. It is said there were 12 children in the family with 3 born in Kentucky and the rest born in Indiana. Only nine lived to maturity. Only a few names are known.
