About James Monroe Combs, Jr
Monroe Combs passed away on October 5, 2017, at the age of 95. He was born on October 7, 1921 in Craig, Colorado. He was the beloved husband of the late Anne Mahon Combs to whom he was married for 63 years, married on Valentine's Day 1946. He was the father of Sherry Chappell Roberts, Ron Combs, the late Christie Combs and Matt Combs. Grandfather of Chasse Chappell Hudgins, Joshua Chappell, Chris Combs, Charlton (Chuck) Combs, Duke Wood, Terry Wood Sharp and Scott Browning. He also leaves behind 13 great grandchildren.
Monroe was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the European Theater as Staff Sargent in the 506 Parachute Infantry, 2nd Battalion, 101st Airborne, E-Company "Band of Brothers". He received campaign ribbons for Normandy, Holland and Bastogne (Battle of the Bulge). He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He worked in the oil and gas industry his entire career, retiring from Tenneco Oil & Gas as an Offshore Drilling Superintendent and earned his Professional Engineer Certification. Following his retirement he started an oil and gas drilling consulting company, J. Monroe Combs, Inc. He was a longtime resident of Lafayette and of the First Baptist church of Lafayette where he served as a Deacon. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 9, 2017 in Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Monday from 8:30 AM until the time of service.
Burial will follow at the Lafayette Memorial Park Cemetery.
