About James Archibald Covington
GEDCOM Note
[010604.ged] I have his birth certificate I have is death certificate [010604.ged] I have his birth certificate The 1880 Scott cty Ky. census of the Lytle Fork dist. is interesting. It shows Arch living with his children. However, notice the names of his neighbors. John J. Covington and his family, Dudley Breeden and his family (Mary Covington), and a Ben Covington living with neihbors by the name of Lancaster. This is my Arch. However, calling him James Arch the son of Orssen is difficult to validate. I have one census (1850) that list Austin with a son named Arch living with him. I also have Arch's death cerificate that someone wrote Arthur over the original writing of the father. "Au" is still visible under the current writing. Also in one of the 18? tax records looks like Arthur, so I can see why someone thought that the name was Arthur. Also on Arch's death cerificate it list Elizabeth Carroll as his mother. Family in the know, and family bibles also list Elizabeth Carroll as Arch's mother. This is significant because I have a copy of the marriage certificate for Elizabeth to marry a Orsen Covington. The 1900 Census of Vevay In. list Arch as Arch "H". I am certain this is my Arch though. Blain and Lucy still lived with him. They were living in Vevay at this time period. The Vevay Reville on 2/10/1910 listed Arch's death. It said that he died in his home in Craig Township. It also said he had been ill for about two weeks. Also that he lived in Vevay for 8 - 10 years. I went to Vevay on 7-1-1999 and found the grave yard where Arch and Rebecca are buried. They had no marked gravestones. There were two sets of gravestones with no names. Two were completely un-readable and almost completely buried. The other two stones just said Mother/Father. In 1787 Fayette county Ky. included what is now Owens and Scott cty. In1790 it was Woodford cty that included what is now " " In 1795 Scott cty was born (I think) In 1800 Scott cty exist. Woodford was greatly reduced Scott bordered Franklin cty In 1810 Scott cty was bordered with Franklin to its left, Fayette to the south and Harrison to the upper right, Bourban lower right, Woodford lower left In 1820 the above remained true but Owen was added. At Scott's upper left 1830 not much border change. Note a cty named Jssamine was not to far south. In 1820 Scott cty only two Covingtons listed - Both named Luke(116-28 & 121-30) In 1820 a Thomas Covington lived in Fayette cty. (Fay-104042) 1830 No Covingtons listed any where near Scott In 1840 listed Covingtons In Scott are near by are: John Scot 062 Levi Scot 040 Sebree Scot 064 Travis Scot 064 For simplicity sake and the fact that those that currently remain alive only know Arch as Arch, I left this name listed for easy identification.
