

James Edward Cowley, son of James Alma Cowley (1852 - 1913) and Ann Lewis (1854 - 1931), was born 7 May 1876 at Logan, Cache County, Utah; he died 14 April 1940 at the age of 63 at Salt Lake General Hospital, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, of colorectal cancer. He married Kitty Floy Hall (1892 - 1974), daughter of Anthony "Tony" Lee Hall and Melvina Elizabeth Guthrie Sessions, on 8 November 1913 at Pocatello, Bannock, Idaho; they had eight known children.

James Edward Cowley, 63, 640 Center Street, died Sunday at 3:30 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital of carcinoma after a year's illness.
Mr. Cowley was born in Logan, May 7, 1876, and spent his life in the occupation of farming.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Kitty Floy Hall Cowley; three sons, Richard N., James H., and Roy L. Cowley, all of Salt Lake city; six daughters, Floy L. Cowley, Salt Lake City, Mrs. J. Young, Westwood, Cal., Mrs. Ila Williamson, Los Angeles, Ann Kay Cowley, Beulah Roberta Cowley, and Joyce Fay Cowley, all of Salt Lake City.
Also surviving are three brothers, William L. Cowley, Albion, Idaho; Alex Cowley, Daniels, Idaho; and Harold J. Cowley, Logan; two sisters, Mrs. E.W. Fifield, Logan, and Mrs. Johnie Jones, Magna, and two grandchildren.
