About James Thompson Craig

Birth: 1856 Death: 1892

LINCOLN COUNTY, KENTUCKY MARRIAGES James T. Craig married Mary Brown 20 June 1888 (newspaper article of their marriage is on Mary's memorial) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SEMI-WEEKLY INTERIOR JOURNAL, STANFORD, KENTUCKY Tuesday, January 5, 1892 Page 1 Craig - Though he had been sick for a long time, the death of James T. Craig, which occurred at 7 yesterday morning, surprised and shocked the citizens, all of whom held him in the highest esteem. For several years he had been troubled with a skin affection, which about eight months ago developed into pemphigus, a very rare disease. This sapped his vitals and from the first his doctors said he could not recover, though they thought he might live longer than he did. Mr. Craig is the last of the seven children of the late Dr. John Craig and was 35 years of age. In 1888 he married Miss Mary Brown, daughter of the late Judge Ellis Brown, and she, heart broken and inconsolable, survives him. May the God of consolation to the widow sustain her in this dark hour, for from human source can no deliverance come, though loving hearts may bleed with sympathy. During his illness Mr. Craig spoke often to his wife of his death, which he was satisfied was a question of short time, and always in a hopeful and resigned manner. He was a member of the Christian church for a number of years and was universally beloved. The soul of honor, genial and warm hearted, Jim Craig had as many friends as anyone and his death strikes them with peculiar sadness. This afternoon the remains will be consigned to the earth after a short sermon at the grave in Buffalo Cemetery.

Friday, January 8, 1892 Page 2 RESOLUTION OF RESPECT At the regular meeting of Stanford Lodge, No 156, I. O. O. F., held at the hall on Tuesday, Jan. 5th, by a unanimous vote a committee was appointed to draft suitable resolutions upon the death of our deceased brother, James T. Craig, who reported: We beg leave to submit the following: Whereas our Heavenly Father has in His wisdom removed from our midst our worthy brother P. G. James T. Craig. Be It Resolved - That in the death of Brother Craig our lodge has lost a faithful and efficient member, the community a good citizen. 2. We tender to his stricken wife our condolence and sympathy. 3. That these resolutions be printed in the Interior Journal and a copy of the same sent to the family of the deceased. A. C. Sine, P. Hampton, Thos. W. Geer.

Tuesday, January 12, 1892 Page 3 In the county court yesterday, J. W. Hayden qualified as administrator of James T. Craig. No will of Capt. Gaines Craig was presented and it is thought he left none. In this event his estate will go to the Harris', Helms, Craigs and Lillards.

Friday, February 12, 1892 Page 5 Friends of Mr. James T. Craig ask us to mention the fact that he was not only liberally remembered by Capt. Craig's will, but that he was named as one of the executors without security. His death having occurred first, and there being no issue from his marriage, the estate devised to him goes to the other natural heirs. (Kentuckiana Digital Library)
