Mary Cunningham was the daughter of James and Agnes (--?--) Cunningham, as proven by a deed from the heirs of James Cunningham to Edward Burres, dated 24 September 1810 (prov. 21 October 1819), recorded Bath County, VA, Deed Book 6:30, in support of two other deeds which give further, but not complete, proof.
Mary married John Wilmoth, and it was their marriage BOND that was dated 16 October 1799, not their marriage date. Mary Harter references two published sources of information on them: Maxwell's History of Randolph County (1898), noting that John could not have been the son of Nicholas Wilmoth and Sidney Currence who were married in 1789, and "Wilmoth, Wilmeth, Etc." by James Lillard Wilmoth (Philadelphia, 1940).
John and Mary (Cunningham) Wilmoth had 12 children who are named by Maxwell.
James Cunningham was probably the son of John Cunningham and Mary Peterson. Perhaps someone can offer PROOF of this--much, much has been published that supposes this but no actual documents have been located. Mary discusses this in great length in the article, including the second marriage of John's widow Mary.
