About James Kennedy Duff
It seems that James & Mary may have moved back and forth between Pennsylvania and Iowa, based on the different birth states of their children and where they were located at the time of the US Census. According to 1880 Census, James' father was from Ireland, mother from PA. HOWEVER, be cautious of a James K. Duff who stayed in PA, also with wife named Mary ... but they lived in different townships.
It is not entirely clear if Margaret (Margaret Duff) is James' sister or his aunt.

- Ref: 1850 US Census-PA FamilySearch.org - mis-reading of census has age as 39, not 29, in the index. There are two census records for North Huntington Township in 1850; the August one seems more correct. Maybe the Census folks recognized the many errors in the June forms.
