James Eccles

In the 1841 Census Robert and wife are living at Masonhill where he is a farmer. Jean is 10 years, Gilbert is 8 years, Elizabeth 6 years, Agnes 4 and James 2 years. They have an agricultural labourer Gilbert McLean 15 years and a servant Jean Wallace 15 years.

In the 1851 Census the family are still at Masonhill farming Jane (Jean) 20 years, Gilbert is 18 years, Elizabeth 16 years and James is 12 years. They have a farm servant James Kennedy 17 years.

In his Fathers will he inherited the family farm at Masonhill. His older brother in 1867 was living in Australia. 

In 1881 James and Cuningham Eccles are living at Abbothill farm with children Robert and Jane.

In 1891 James and Cuningham are living in Broadwigg Dairyman(? spelling) House in the Parish of Whithorn in Wigtown. Robert their son is unmarried and a dairyman, Jane 18 is a dairymaid, Agnes 16 a domestic servant, James 13 a scholar and William 12 a scholar.

In the 1901 Census James and Cuningham are living at Broadwigg farm cottage and James is listed as a Dairyman (cheese-maker) Cuningham as a dairyman's wife. Jane 28 and Agnes 26 are still living at home and listed as dairyman's daughters/workers.

In the 1911 Census James is 72 and Cunningham 68, James is listed as a retired dairyman. Agnes their daughter is 36 years of age and listed as a worker at home. They are living at Springwell Cottage, Kirkinner Wigtown. They have had 43 years of marriage and 5 of their 6 children are still living.

Cuningham Eccles death is recorded in Ayr at the age of 82 years, her son William being in attendance.

James Eccles died in Greenock Renfrewshire his son-in-law John Sloan was in attendance. (Checked October 2015)
