James Hamilton of Raploch, is noticed as Sheriff of Lanark, on 12 August 1510 Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, ii, A.D. 1424-1513, charter number 3492 on page 750 His eldest son James appears to have succeeded to Raploch before 20 July 1532 Register of the Great Seal of Scotland, iii, A.D. 1513-46, charter number 1197 on page 261

"On 10 June 1503 James, 2nd Lord Hamilton, granted precept of sasine to his bailies William Hamilton of Cander and John Hamilton his son and heir-apparent for infefting James Hamilton in Raploch and Isabel Weir his spouse in the granter's lands of Raploch. They were infeft in the lands 26 June following."

James Hamilton of Raploch, who had a charter from George, Lord St John, Preceptor of Torfichen, of the Temple lands, called the Wairds, near Hamilton, dated 10th February 1517.
