<p>(Research):All records found so far indicate that James is William's s on.</p><p><p>Andrew F. Hunter's book:</p></p><p><p>The History of Simcoe County, shows neither Halls nor Hatch es at Penetanguishene prior to 1837.</p><p><p>This supports the probability that James Hatch is the son o f William, rather than of a James Hatch Sr. family as conte nded by Lorne Hatch, (based upon the recollectionof an eld erly relative).</p><p><p>In fact, William Hatch of Oro is the only Hatch in all of S imcoe County in 1837. At that time, there are four HALL fa milies: Jones Hall of Adjala, H. Hall of Oro[our Hall], Wm . Hall of Essa, and Wm. Hall of Tecumseth. I very much dou bt that the other three Halls are related to Humberston.</p><p><p>William Grouette, father of Jane,is at Medonte in 1837 [adj acent township to the north Oro], and that</p><p><p>is where wefind James and Jane 20-plus years later, with ch ildren getting married in Medonte, Oro, and Orillia Townshi ps (all twps being adjacent to each other).On the 1 891 Census (m/film#:T-6434, West Portage la Prairie), his d aughter Sarah Ann states that he was born in England, and h er mother was born in Ontario. Again, this supports him be ing William</p><p><p>s son, as William and Sarah didn</p></p><p><p>t arrive inCanada until about 1830. Since James</p></p><p>son, Thomas, is living together with William Grouette in 18 71, I have no doubt at all that Jane Grouette is the mothe r of Thomas, Sarah Ann, and all their siblings.2-Jame s Hatch was born about 1819 in England and died in 1854 i n Ontario, Canada7. The cause of hisdeath was exposur e ( Hypothermia ).
