About James V Healy

James Vincent Healy, 83, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Friday June 27, 2014, at the Delaware Veterans Home, Milford. Jim was born in Wilmington, June 4, 1931, to Thomas J. and Mary C. (McGonegal) Healy.

He graduated Archmere Academy in 1949 and the U.S. Naval Academy in 1954. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years in total active duty and reserve time, retiring as a captain. He was a naval aviator and served overseas on the USS Intrepid and other ships. Upon leaving active duty he worked in the defense industry before returning to Delaware to join the family construction company, John E. Healy & Sons Inc.

Mr. Healy served on many boards including Archmere Academy, The Grand Opera House and the USNA Foundation. He served on Sen. Roth's Service Academy Appointment Committee, was chairman of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and president of the Delaware Contractors Association. He was a founding member of the Delaware Valley Historic Aircraft Association and the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum in Horsham, Pa. He led the Catholic Appeal in the Tri-State area in 1984 and 1985 and was cubmaster of Cub Scout Pack 342.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia (Dowd) in 1968; and their son Lt. Stephen Healy in 1987 while serving in the U.S. Navy on board USS Ranger. He is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 43 years; his daughter Maureen Maister and her husband Larry; his son James Jr. and his wife Mary Lou; his son Lorenz and his wife Christina; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ann Kelly.

Memorial services will be conducted at the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel on a date yet to be scheduled. His ashes will be inurned at the USNA Columbarium.
