About James Heard
His mother Phoebe Littlefield Heard died in an Indian attack when he was less than a year old. His dying mother reportedly told her wounded husband to hurry home to protect her four children, which he did. This James had three older sisters, Dorcas (later Tucker), Phebe (later Morrill, Stevens), and Shuah (later Bartlett).
His father John Heard remarried to Jane Cole (widow of Joseph Littlefield), with whom he had three more daughters (half-sisters to this James): Jane (later Coffin), Mary (Baxter), and Abigail (Hubbard).
He married Mary Roberts (daughter of Hatevil Roberts and Lydia Roberts), who later remarried to Samuel Wingate [ probably Wingate-202; better sourcing needed to confirm. ]
James and Mary Roberts Heard had four daughters: Sarah (Chadbourne), Mary (Hayes), Phoebe (Lord), and Jane. It is not yet clear whether James lived to see the birth of his youngest daughter, Jane. His widow remarried the same year that Jane was born.
The couple's exact burial locations are not documented. James' remarried wife reportedly died in Dover, Stafford, New Hampshire. His parents and two siblings are buried in Early Settlers Cemetery, Eliot, York County, Maine.
