Per Conquerors of the West: Stalwart Mormon Pioneers, Volumes 1-2: James Russell Ivie was born December 30, 1802, in Franklin County, Georgia. He was married in June of 1824 at the age of 21 years old to Eliza McKee Fausett. They arrived in Provo, Utah, September 20, 1848, in Brigham Young's 2nd Company. James passed away June 10, 1866, in Scipio, Millard, Utah. His wife, Eliza, was born July 5, 1808, in Sumner County, Tennessee, the daughter of Richard Fossett/Faucett and Mary Fossett/Faucett. She passed away August 7, 1896, in Scipio, Millard, Utah.

James Married second Amanda Jane Brush and married third Abigale Reynolds. James and Eliza and their family were living near Paris, Monroe, Missouri, when Zion's Camp came through. They joined the Mormon Church and went with the camp to Western Missouri . They moved to Nauvoo and were living there when the Prophet was martyred. The family assisted Parley P. Pratt when he escaped from prison. They emigrated to Utah with Brigham Young 's company of 1848.

James and Eliza's two oldest sons, Richard and William, served in the Mormon Battalion. Upon James arrival in the Valley, they went to Provo, among the first settlers there. Later he was called to lead the settlement of Mt. Pleasant. Later they moved to Scipio where James was killed by the Indians in the early part of the Blackhawk War.
