About James John Kacirk
James John Kacirk 1925 - 2013
The son of a talented artist and draftsman, James (Jim) Kacirk was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1925. A 1945 graduate of Marquette University in Physics, James spent almost 50 years as a principal of Thermonetics/Geoscience Corporation in San Diego, developing and testing thermal instruments for use in biomedical research until the age of 87. He served as a lieutenant in the Korean War aboard the battleship Missouri, after training in Coronado as a "frogman" on the Underwater Demolition Team. James raised three children, Jeff, Jenny, and Jay, with his wife Dolores; living first in Milwaukee, WI until 1961, and afterward in San Diego, CA. In 1970 he graduated from UC San Diego with a Masters of Fine Arts, and taught art classes locally. James enjoyed healthy living, nature and the great outdoors, and especially the ocean. He was an avid reader, an accomplished watercolorist, sculptor, photographer, draftsman and sailor. He maintained a series of wooden sailboats at the San Diego Yacht Club for more than 40 years. With too many interesting projects yet unfinished, James died on August 3, 2013 after a long illness. He will be greatly missed by his longtime girlfriend Monique, as well as his children, three grandchildren, Jon, Jared, and Jodie, and many other cherished friends.
