About James Morgan Kelly
Born James Morgan Meier. His mother was separated from her husband, H W Beier, and while not on his birth certificate, his father was John Kelly. Following the death of H W Beier on 31/07/1900, Emma married John Kelly on 15/12/1900 in Townsville and his children commenced using his surname.
The divorce papers show James's occupation as a motor mechanic as does his 1916 enlistment in the A.I.F. under the surname of Kelly. The AIF records in the National Archives also has evidence of him using the names James Morgan Kelley, Ralph Morgan James and James Kelleye. He was married under the name of James Kelley.
