About James Henry Kerr

Gospel preacher who was ordained by the Clear Creek Church of Christ, Stantonville, McNairy County, Tennessee. Here is a timeline of his life: James Henry was born February 20, 1816, in Williamson County, Tennessee. In 1824 the family moved to Maury County, Tennessee, where his mother died 2 years later in 1826. He married Lydia Patterson about 1834 probably in Maury County, Tennessee. In 1840 he sold land in Maury County, Tennessee, and moved to Selmer, McNary County, Tennessee. In 1842 he was an Elder of the Clear Creek Church of Christ in McNairy County, and in 1845 was ordained an evangelist.

In 1850 he was listed in the census for McNairy County. In 1852 he received a letter of dismissal from Clear Creek Church and moved to Diamond, Newton County, Missouri, with five wagons in their wagon train. His father's will in 1853 left him $100. Sometime before 1854 he moved to Taney County, Missouri, and his daughter was married there that year. He was a resident of Taney County, Missouri, in the 1860 census. About 1862 his wife died in Christian County, Missouri, leaving 5 children under age of 16. On July 10, 1864, he married Mary J. Dodson (1825-1868) in Christian County, Missouri. This marriage provided James with almost 400 acres near Dodson Cemetery. in 1865 he was a Minister of Dodson Christian Church, Christian County, Missouri.

On August 24, 1865 he performed the marriage of George Henry and Martha Burroughs in Christian County. On August 29, 1865, he performed the marriage of Thomas Handay and Elizabeth Keltner, in Christian County. {James H. Kerr, MG}.

His wife died in 1868 in Christian County, and on May 24, 1869, he married Nancy M. Agnew (1835-1907) in Christian County.
