James P. Martin was born August 1, 1831, in Auburn, Cayoga county, N.Y. Died Feb. 13, 1909, aged 77 years, 6 months and 13 days.

He was married to Harriet M. Rose, Oct. 31, 1855, at Genesco, Ill. To this union were born seven children. His wife and six children survive him: Cyrus (transcriber's note: should be Tyrus) C. Martin, Glasco; Isabelle Hare, Delphos; Julia H. Hetherington, Manchester, Ia.; May Swain, El Paso, Texas; Oliver P. Martin, Kansas City; and Jessie B. Tipton, Jamestown, Kans., are the living children. Electa Williams died Nov. 23, 1890.

The family moved to Iowa in 1856, and in 1879 to Kansas, and have lived since that time on the farm six miles northeast of Glasco.

The funeral was held at the Advent Christian church, Glasco, Feb. 17, 1909 at 1:30 o'clock p.m., Wallace Griffin conducting the service, by request of the deceased. In the death of Mr. Martin the community lost a valuable citizen, the wife a loving husband, the children a tender father, and humanity a warm friend.
