About James McCourt
James was a farmer for most of his life but in later years manufactured starch. He moved to Polk County in 1860 to Garfield Twp. In those days, the locality abounded in wild game and there were very few white men. He took up 160 acres, made a clearing and gradually developed the land as a homestead farm.
