About James Oliver Mickley

James O Mickley, 78, lifelong resident of Adams county and veteran of the Civil War, died Sunday evening at 11:15 at his home, Iron Springs, Route 1, from a complication of diseases. Mr. Mickley had been in failing health for some time and while his death was not entirely unexpected his passing was a great shock to his many friends throughout the county. In January, 1864, Mr. Mickley, who was then 17 years of age, volunteered with the Union forces in the Civil War cause. He was a member of Co. I, 188th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer infantry, and fought through the balance of the struggle, being honorably discharged in December, 1865. He was discharged form the service at City Point, Virginia. The deceased is survived by the following sons and daughters, G.O. Mickley, of Iron Springs, Mrs. Daniel Benchoff, of Fairfield; David Mickley and Roy Mickley, at home. Funeral services Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the home. Rev. Charles Ankerbrand officiating, with burial in the Fairfield cemetery. Note: Son of Mary Knause Mickley
