Late Mr. J. O. Mitchell

After an illness of two weeks Mr. James Owen Mitchell passed away at the Yarloop Hospital on December 5, at the age of 87. The late Mr. Mitchell was one of the old pioneers of the district, being the second son of the late W. O. and Mrs. Mitchell and was born at Belvidere near Brunswick Junction.

At the age of iwo years when his father had finished his term as manager of the Princep estate, his parents left for the Geraldton district, living there for seven years and returning to the Canning where his father kept a store for Mr. Bickley for two years, after which they returned to the South West.

Deceased worked on his father's farm, until he was old enough to manage his own. The late Mr. Mitchell then rented a farm at Brunswick for three years during which time he married Miss Rose Perrin on August 13, 1890.

In 1892 the late Mr. Mitchell took up land east of Yarloop now known as "Blackrock" and has lived there ever since. Mr. Mitchell went in for mixed farming including horse and cattle breeding.

His wife predeceased hiim five years ago, The funeral took place the day following his death, and was largely attended. After a service in the 7th Day Adventist Church, his remains were laid to rest in the Harvey Cemetery, Pastor Speck and Pastor Powrie officiating at the graveside.

The chief mourners were Steve and Annie (son and daughter-in-law) Val, Graves and Clem Mitchell (brothers) Charley Nicholson and Ted Courthope (nephews). The pall bearers were Messrs. Brim (Benger) O. Green; R. Gooding; F. Trevenah, M. Logue; and H. Clifton.
