About James Larry Newkirk

James Larry Newkirk, 73, of Waynesburg, died at 5:00 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at home.

He was born Sunday, February 2, 1941 in Franklin Twp., Greene Co., a son of the late James M. Newkirk and Wilma Gene Farabee Newkirk.

Mr. Newkirk was a member of the Oakview United Methodist Church in Waynesburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed all car racing especially dirt track racing, and had a passion for doing photography at the race tracks. He liked to build model cars and roller skating.

Mr. Newkirk drove delivery truck for Barna's Furniture and Neubauers Flowers both in Waynesburg. He later worked as a welder for Homestead Industries in Coraopolis, PA. He then worked as a welder and truck driver for Smith Machine in Eighty Four,PA.

He is survived by his wife, Dolly Wilson Newkirk, whom he married on October 3, 1965.

Also surviving is one son and his wife, James C. (Christy) Newkirk of Graysville; three grandchildren, Tyler Newkirk, Austin Woods, and Alyssa Woods.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014 in the Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home, Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 197 N. Maiden St., Waynesburg, PA 15370 where services will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 with Rev. Dr. David Stains officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA. Graveside Military Honors will be accorded by the James Farrell American Legion Post #330 of Waynesburg and representatives of the U.S. Army.
