DISAMBIGUATION:Neither John Pool (b 1658 Edgefield SC) nor James Pool ( b 1756 in Brunswick VA) nor any of the "ECC Poole Line" } is a descendant of William the joiner Pool OR any of the Pettypooles ( Seth Pettypool is still shown as James Pool's father in some genealogies, although most have now corrected this error).

JAMES B (called "Jacob") Pool and his brother Alexander were the sons of Alexander Pool who died intestate in Mecklemburg VA in 1767. This line is well proven by multiple Y DNA results as well as a very strong documednt trail. Before DNA was available, most genealogists had believed that this line was a Pettypool line; despite the existence of proof to the contrary, this "bad" research keeps getting "cut and pasted" leading current researchers to repeat this error ... for this reason, the DNA evidence is repeated below.

The "ECC POOLE" descendants are all Y haplogroup G1a (also called G (F2885) ) All of the US Pettypool people are closely related, and are all R haplogroup.
