About James Brown Pike

Brother of Captain Zebulon Montgomery Pike, Jr. who was famous for naming Pike's Peak on the Expedition he led into the southwest in the years 1806-07. His brother Zebulon later, promoted to Brigadier General, died of his wounds suffered in Canada during the War of 1812.

James Brown Pike never served in the military due to the lingering effects of TB he endured all his life. Many of the Pike family suffered and perished from this disease.

His first born son, William Montgomery Pike, was accidentally shot and died on the ill fated Donner Party in October of 1846. He was reportedly laid to rest in Truckee Meadows as the first snows began to fall.
