The following obituary comes from "The News-Herald," Saturday, November 25, 1972, Page 18, Column 3:
"James R. Anthony Jr., 85, of Pleasantville RD 2, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edith Walters, Titusville RD 2, at 10:20 p.m. Thursday.
He was born May 22, 1887, in Jefferson County, the son of the late James R. and Jane A. Confer Anthony, Sr.
He was married to Ella Irene Westfall in Mayville, N.Y., in 1908. She died in 1952.
Mr. Anthony worked with his father rafting lumber down the Allegheny to Pittsburgh. He worked as a teamster and lumberman until retirement in 1952. He attended the Free Methodist Church in Pleasantville.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. LeRoy (Jennie) Vanderhoff, Spartansburg RD 2, Mrs. Clyde (Edith) Walters, of Titusville RD 2, Mrs. David (Lillian) Hart of Diamond, Mrs. Henry (Ella) Vargason of Titusville; six sons, James, Henry, Charles, Ernest, all of Pleasantville RD 2, Robert of Titusville and Earl of Hamilton, Ohio; a stepchild, Mrs. John (Sarah) Howe in Harborcreek. He is also survived by 60 grandchildren; 78 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mable Westfall, Titusville MR 5, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Sunday in Titusville."
