In 1977, his sister Mary Rae, who would have been 78 at the time, described to me the day the family was having dinner at the house in Padstow when the postman came to the door to deliver the telegram telling them that Pringle had been killed. The memory was as fresh in her mind as if the telegram had been delivered the day before.
