James Arthur Reese

James A. Reese, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in UPMC Presbyterian, Oakland. Born March 31, 1931, in Mt. Pleasant, he was a son of the late Richard and Bertha (Minerd) Reese. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mt. Pleasant. He was a graduate of the former Hurst High School, and had worked as a guard at the former Screw & Bolt Co. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict in the Chorwan Valley, where he attained the rank of corporal and was awarded the combat infantry badge, the Sigmon Rae Citation and Korean Service Ribbon with two battle stars. He was a member of DAV, American Legion Post 446 and VFW Post 3368, both of Mt. Pleasant, Roosevelt Club of Haydenville and a social member of Mt. Pleasant Firemen's Club. Jim enjoyed making ceramics at Creations Unlimited with his niece, Nadine Barr. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Janet (Ersick) Reese; a son, James A. Reese Jr. of Irwin; two sisters, Gladys Balcerek of Mt. Pleasant and Alice Balestrieri of Greensburg; a sister-in-law, Isabelle Reese of Alverton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Wendy Sue Reese; four brothers, Charles, Richard, William and Donald Reese; and four sisters, Clara Reese, Elvira Kantorik, Sabina Borza and Erma Jean Miller. Friends were received at the EUGENE G. SALOOM FUNERAL HOME INC., 730 W. Main St., Mt. Pleasant, Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Sherry A. Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with full military rites.
