27 March - 7 April 1657: Contract of Marriage between James Renton of Billie, son to the said James Renton of Billie, by Lilias Oliphant his spouse, with the advice and consent of the said Lilias Oliphant his mother, on the one part, and Jean Home eldest lawful Daughter to John Home of Manderston with the advice and consent of her said father, on the other part whereby the said James Renton binds and obliges himself to infeft and seise the said Jean Home, his promised Spouse, in liferent, during all the days of the lifetime of the said Lilias Oliphant and Jean Home conjunction, in all and haill the six husband lands and two cottages or coatlands, with the pertinents thereof, lying in the town and territory of Auchincraw, and within the barony of Coldinghame and Sheriffdom of Berwick; and in like manner in all and haill the four husband lands, with a half husband land and piece of land called Braidaker, with the pertinents thereof, lying in the said town and territory of Auchincraw, the said Barony of Coldinghame, and Sheriffdom foresaid; and in like manner in all and haill one husband land, with the pertinents called Killands, lying within the said town and territory of Auchincraw, the said Barony of Coldingham, and Sheriffdom of Berwick aforesaid; and farther in all and haill these five husband lands of the Kirklands of Dunglasse, pertaining and belonging to the Prebendarie of Barnside as ane pairt of the patrimonie thereof, with the pertinents of the same lying within the said town and territorie of Auchincraw, Barony of Coldinghame, and Sheriffdom of Berwick foresaid; and sicklike in all and haill the old mill of Billie, with the Mill lands, Multures, sucken, knaveship, sequels, and pertinents thereof; and in all and haill the laigh dwelling house called the laigh hall of Billie, with the pertinents, lying upon the north side of the cloisse of Billie, and in the Doucat of Billie, with the yards and orchyards belonging to the toure and manor place thereof or principal messuage of the samen. And the said James Renton further binds and obliges himself and his heirs to infeft and seise the said Jean Home his future spouse in liferent during all the days of her lifetime after the decease of the said Lilias Oliphant, Lady Billie, his mother, in all and haill the lands of Billie, with the miln thereof and pertinents, lying in the barony and regality of Boncle and Sheriffdom of Berwick; and also in all and haill the lands of Nunmeadow, Nunbutts, and Nunflatt, with their pertinents lying within the Sheriffdom foresaid; and that by two several infeftments and manners of holding. By the said Contract it is provided that the whole lands and others respectively above specified shall descend and belong to the heirs to be procreated of the said marriage. And on the other part, the said John Home of Manderstoun binds binds and obliges himself and his heirs to pay and deliver at the four terms mentioned in the said Contract, the sum of 9000 merks in name of tocher with the said Jean Home.
