James "Jim Pop" Robbins, 84, died Friday night, March 6, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charity Hawkins of Willow Grove, Clay County, from burns he suffered late Friday afternoon when he fell before the onrush of flames burning sage grass near the Hawkins home. Mr. Hawkins, who was spending a few weeks with his daughter, had walked out to the field to watch the burning of the grass and fell trying to run from the flames when the fire spread in his direction. He died a few hours later. He had lived in the Monroe community for many years. Surviving are two daughters; Mrs. Charity Hawkins of Willow Grove and Mrs. Cara Maynard of Cordell, Okla; 3 sons, Lonzie Robbins, Postmaster at Monroe; Moses Robbins of Monroe and Henry Robbins of Crossville. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday by the Rev John A Coleman with burial in the Red Hill Cemetery.
