James Robertson, Jr.

One of the eight congregations organized by Rev. John Craig in the western settlements and reported to Hanover Presbytery in 1769 was at New Derry near Shawsville and Ft. Vause now in Montgomery County (36 families), of which David Robinson and James Robertson were two of the elders.

James Robertson, Jr. was a son of James Robertson, Sr. & Rebecca Royston. Born in Northern Ireland between 1716-1724. He came to Colonial America with his father, James Robertson, Sr. and family, arriving in Staunton, VA in 1738. [As documented in "Bondage Servants" publication, pg 680].

James married Elizabeth Crawford on August 18, 1743.

James, Jr. died in 1754 in Augusta County. He left his 274 acres of land to his sons, George & Alexander in his will. (Please see URL at bottom of page for much documentation that will be most helpful in the study of this Robertson family.]

His burial location is not known. Perhaps on his land, as was the custom of the day.
