On Thursday, July 1st, of Acute Peritonitis, J. DIXON ROMAN, son of the late Hon. J. Dixon Roman, aged 21 years. This sudden and untimely death has overwhelmed with grief the hearts of his relatives and his many friends.

A little more than two weeks ago Dixon Roman reached his home in this place from Cambridge, where he had finished his Junior year in Harvard University. Rejoicing in having just attained his majority and in all the pride of life he was received as of old with unfeigned pleasure by his former associates. On Saturday last, one week ago, he was taken suddenly ill and in a few short days Death, that ever changing cloud, passed before his light of life and he was gone. And now he is gathered to his fathers. The places that knew him once will know him no more.

He passed away -- a soul of noble tone. His polished, unassuming manners, his graceful wit, his refined taste, his kindly heart endeared him to all who knew him and those who knew him bested loved him most. Fondly will their memory dwell upon him, "treasuring the look it cannot fine, the words that are not heard again."

In all humility we bow before an inscrutable Providence; but the heart grows sick and slowly beats the pulse where such a loss as this occurs.

Strong Son of God Immortal Love,
Whom we that have not sen thy face,
By faith and faith alone embrace,
Believing when we cannot prove.

Thine are the orbs of light and shade,
Thou madest life in man and brace,
Thou madest Death; and lod thy foot
Is on the skull which thou hast made.

Thou wilt not leave us in the dust,
Thou madest man, he knows now why,
He thinks he was not made to die,
And thou has made him; thou art just.
