GEDCOM Note
Osborne James Roper (b. 6 Oct 1811 - Moulton, Norfok, England, d. 27 Aug 1885 - Hobart Lake, IN), wife Emma Barnes (b. 1811, Suffolk, England) had a child in England (Thomas in ~1850 in Walpole, Suffolk, England). Their next child, James (b. Feb 1853) was born in Whitmore Lake, MI. The next child, Charlotte (b. 1855) was also born in Michigan, presumably Whitmore Lake. The next child, Jarvis Henry Roper (b. 10 Oct 1858) was born in Hobart Lake. Osborne appeared in a Moulton census as of 31 Mar 1851. They appear in the ship's register of the Joseph Walker arriving in New York 30 April 1851.
These facts suggest:
1. They arrived in Whitmore Lake between November 1851 and early 1853. 2. They stayed in Whitmore Lake until at least 1855 or 56 but not longer than Oct 1858.
3. They came to Whitmore Lake for a reason. They were probably related to Edward Roper and Edward encouraged them to come there.
James arrived 12 November 1851 in New York on the Ocean Queen coming from London. On the ship's registry, he was listed as a laborer.
