About James Russell Rote
According to a note made by his niece, Luella Rote Lloyd, dated Christmas 1963, Jim and his family were living in Topeka, Kansas and Jim worked for Tip Top Dairy, Armstrong's Ice Cream.

Jim was born January 3, 1920, in New Castle, PA, the son of Ruby M. and Howard J. Rote. He was a graduate of New Castle High School. After serving in France and Germany during WWII, Jim retired as a Captain in the Army, and later enjoyed a long career as Regional Franchise Director for Baskin-Robbins.
He and his wife, Dorothy (Maher), raised their family in Pennsylvania and Overland Park, retired to Naples, FL for 15 years, and returned to Overland Park in 2002. A devoted husband, dad, grandpa, and great "big grandpa," Jim was an avid golfer, enjoyed fishing with his son and his buddies, and was well known for cooking gourmet dinners for his family and many friends. He was an active member of Nall Hills Country Club, enjoying weekends playing volleyball, chairing many events, and serving a term as club president.
Jim was loved, admired and respected by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Marcy, and by Dorothy, his loving wife of 59 years. He is survived by his six children, James R. Rote Jr., Nancy Blackburn, Jan Kelly (Jim O'Keefe), Kathy Fogel (Jim), Bob Rote (Amy), and Diane Scheid (Brian), 7 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and one brother, Fred, in Marion, Ohio.
