James Ruddell was the son of Archibald Ruddell 1727 and Elizabeth Beggs, and the grandson of John Ruddell 1695 and Mary Cook.

He married Jane Mulherin, daughter of James Mulherin, and widow of Cornelius Ruddell(James Ruddell's cousin)

Revolutionary War Soldier :

Prisoner of War 24 June 1780 Taken prisoner while in Va Militia and stationed at Ruddle's Fort in Kentucky County, Va (later became state of KY) (Source: Rebel Prisoners of Quebec 1778-1783, chris Mchenry, 1981)

Released by the British from Quebec Canada to come home by sea to Philadelphia on 2 Nov 1782 (Older brother John Ruddell killed by an indian and scalped on way to Detroit Michigan with captives)
