About James Otto Shannon
James Otto Shannon, 68, of Ravenswood went to be with the Lord Dec. 30, 2004, at Saint Francis Hospital in Charleston.
He was born Aug. 26, 1936, in Spokane Wash., the son of William Andrew and DeLorus James Shannon. Mr. Shannon was a member of Praise Cathedral Church in Ravenswood. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Wisconsin and retired as a commander. After starting with Kaiser Aluminum in 1963, he retired from Pechiney Rolled Products in Ravenswood as a metallurgist/chemical engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Hopfinger Shannon of Ravenswood; children, Forrest Shannon and his wife, Annette, of Spokane; Bruce Shannon and his wife, Mary Jean, of Cary, N.C.; Melody Vannest and her husband, Brian, of Ravenswood; and Barbara Schaerli of Switzerland; four grandchildren, James and Zachary Vannest and Taylor and Grace Shannon; brothers, Ralph Shannon and his wife, Marlene, and Bill Shannon and his wife, Becky; sisters, Laurel Durkee and her husband, George, and Bonnie Shannon. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Praise Cathedral Church, Ravenswood, with Pastor James Legg officiating. There will be a reception at the church following the memorial service.
